Connecting Conversations with Build a Dream

We have an incredible Connecting Conversation for you all today! We sat down with Nour Hachem-Fawaz, the President and Founder of Build a Dream. Build a Dream is a non-profit organization that delivers specialized programs to encourage and empower female students to explore careers where women are under-represented, while also working to create a gender-balanced workforce while changing global perspective on women’s contribution to society.

We talk about the misogyny that is woven into male-dominated environments, sports and employment alike, and how this can seriously affect the unconscious bias and self-esteem of young girls as they grow into women.

In this chat, Nour explains the mindset shift needed in order to fully change the global perspective of women in male-dominated workplaces, which starts with parents and role models. She explains that young girls who want to explore skilled labour should be supported in their interest and not persuaded to go into more female-dominated work.

We also explore the intersectionality of race and gender in the workforce, especially male-dominated environments. In awareness of this issue, Build a Dream has implemented three major initiatives for race and diversity equality in the workplace, including the Workforce Initiative Network, aka WIN (https://www.webuildadream.com/win/), participation in a Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, and supplying a list of anti-racist resourses (https://www.webuildadream.com/anti-racist-resources/).

All this and so much more are included in this Connecting Conversation, in which you can watch the full interview via the link above. You can also tune in on any podcast platform following the links below.
