The Effect of Racism on Teachers

We generally focus on Black students in our Workshops. However, students are not the only group affected by racism in the education system.

Teachers also feel the effects of racism in schools, be it by principles, other teachers, or students. Racism may be the root of the issue in terms of the low number of Black teachers, because it can destroy an educator’s love of teaching. A consequence of this is a lower number of Black role models in the education system for our Black youth to follow, which leads to lower engagement in school among other serious issues.

Here at Family Fuse, we want to empower our Black educators and make meaningful change in the Windsor-Essex education system. To tackle this widespread issue, we’ve created workshops designed to lift up and give Black teachers the tools they need to navigate the education system.
