Connecting Conversations With The Sandwich Teen Action Group

Grab some coffee and get ready for our newest Connecting Conversation!

It was a pleasure to speak with John Elliot, the Executive Director for the Sandwich Teen Action Group. The Teen Action Group is a local, community-based non-profit organization responding to youth’s needs in the Windsor-Essex community.

John and I speak about how important it is for a community to have a safe place for it’s youth to socialize, create, and learn. At the Teen Action Group’s building (3735 King Street, Windsor, ON), the walls are decorated with murals and art created by the teenagers who attend the Group often. It is a symbol of the love and sense of community that surrounds “S.T.A.G”, as they took an old school building and transformed it into a youthful, comforting environment.

Although COVID-19 has impacted the Action Group and closed its doors temporarily, John asserts that as long as there are youth who need somewhere to go in order to de-stress, create, or just be, the doors will remain open (online and in-person, when regulations permit).

We also chat about recent social justice events, the education system, and current barriers facing Black youth in Canada and Windsor-Essex, specifically.
