The Effects of Racism on Students

Work it wednesday.jpg

Childhood and Adolescence are a time of uncertainty and fast-tracked development. White children have to worry about “normal” things like hormones, family, friends, and schoolwork. Black youth, on the other hand, have to deal with all of the same challenges, but with racism added on top of it all. It is an unfair burden placed on our youth and with a low amount of Black teachers in Canada, Black youth struggle with finding role models who look like them at school.

Without intervention, children affected by racism can become withdrawn from school activities, anxious, aggressive, and reject their Black culture in order to fit in with their white peers.

Our goal is to give you the insight and power to identify racism, intervene, and prevent further anti-Black targeting in the classroom. Break down the barriers and set up your child for success.
