Team Talk Tuesday

Salem approaches most situations with a smile.

Salem approaches most situations with a smile.

Hello, my name is Salem Berhane and I am your Outreach Facilitator. I am a single mother of 2, a business owner and one of the three co-founders of Family Fuse. I have been a youth advocate for as long as I can remember and a voice for the unheard when language barrier is an issue. When my family and I migrated to Canada, my parents did not have much help navigating the Canadian way of living. Fortunately, we were able to seek help by fellow Eritreans that were here before us through the mistakes that they have made. That exposure to how my community was willing to help made such a huge difference in my life, that I wanted to continue the gesture. Today I extend my assistance to not only Eritreans, but to anyone I am able to.

Are you in the same situation that my family and I were in? If so, I as a member of Family Fuse am here to assist parents, guardians and caregivers when navigating the school system for your child(ren). Between one-to-one coaching as well as FREE workshops on what to do in certain situations, aid will be provided. More importantly, preventative tactic strategies by being active in your child(ren)s education. It is known that those who are more involved in their child’s education deal with less problems than those who are not involved at all.

I am a walking testimony with my own son who I did not pay too much attention to getting involved at his first school unless we ran into a problem. Once we moved schools, I took the initiative to introduce myself to all his teachers and the administrative staff right from the beginning of the school year and kept a close relationship with all his teachers in the best interest of my son. Through my lived experience as a parent, I believe that I will be able to guide you in the right direction when facing a problem within the education system.
